australia is a really boring movie. and it is so god-awfully long. long + boring is never a good thing. it makes people wonder when will the movie ever end. and when people do that ever so often, they start losing track of the story, or the characters, or whatever. and when people can't take it anymore, they'll grab their remote and fast forward every now and then, praying for the end. but the end is still an hour or so away.

and so you watch on, yawn, clear the coffee table, wonder what you're gonna eat for lunch tomorrow, and finally you see a very dirty-looking hugh jackman hugging an equally dirty-looking nicole kidman real tight (smoke coming out of every corner - most probably after a very huge explosion) and words rising up from against a blank screen and yeah, it's finally over.
